I remember all of the stories that these three grandchildren have told. Lots of corn on the cob, and even more potty shoveling when mowing the yard. I was the recipient of toe pulling for many years, Samantha… and I didn’t like it either ;-( Grandpa coach loved to have his toes pulled, and best when they popped!
Grampa Coach was a life long learner. He adapted. He changed. He was flexible with ideas and issues. He was willing to poke fun at himself and wasn’t shy about poking fun at anybody else. For as much as people remember him as a tough and disciplined football coach and a “3 yards and a cloud of dust” mindset, he never got the credit he REALLY deserved for his innovation: first FB kicking camp on the planet, 4 QB offense (grass attack), inventing a board game (Square Off) that Mattel eventual took to market, raising funds for the RF Library, etc. He was a clever, loving man that never lost his inner kid. He is sorely missed by all.
